  Advanced Nondestructive Testing (NDT) Technologies

Safe-life analysis, small critical initial flaw sizes, high density materials – engineering requirements that have dictated the highest level of NDT knowledge and application. Nondestructive Testing is required to verify hardware soundness to conform with manned and unmanned space components, process control, and failure analysis.

Within the Nondestructive Testing (NDT) technology disciplines, Pratt & Whitney Rocketdyne applies the assignment and performance of NDT requirements set forth by Mil-I-6870, “NDI Program Requirements for Aircraft and Missile Materials and Parts.” Our adherence to these requirements provides our customers, both commercial and government, with rigorous and methodical inspection processes and procedures to provide effective reliability and sensitivity of inspection applications depending on the relationship of the design and quality requirements with an applicable fracture control plan and flaw size limitation.

The NDT function is augmented with on-site Materials Control Lab support unique to specific technology development application. It also administers and maintains NDT inspection reliability demonstrations to a 90-95% Probability of Detection / Confidence Level (POD/CL) in the Fluorescent Penetrant Testing, Eddy Current Testing, and Radiography Testing.

Our areas of expertise include:

Computed Tomography (CT)
Precision Fluorescent Penetrant (PT)
Real-Time Radioscopy (RTR)
Immersion Ultrasonic (UT)
